IBM has officially announced the latest Technology Refresh (TR) updates for both supported IBM i operating systems:

• IBM i 7.5 Technology Refresh 8 (TR8)

• IBM i 7.6 Technology Refresh 2 (TR2)

These releases continue IBM’s strategy of delivering new capabilities without requiring customers to perform a full operating system upgrade. Instead, new features are delivered through Technology Refreshes and PTF Groups, allowing organizations to modernize their IBM i environments while remaining on their current OS release.

Release Availability

IBM announced both Technology Refreshes in July 2026.

IBM i 7.5 Technology Refresh 8 (TR8)

IBM i 7.5 continues to receive significant enhancements, especially for customers planning to remain on Version 7.5 while adopting the latest Power11 hardware and modern IBM i technologies.

IBM i 7.6 Technology Refresh 2 (TR2)

IBM i 7.6 TR2 includes many of the improvements found in 7.5 TR8 while adding several security-focused capabilities available only to Version 7.6.
